A WINNING DAY AT FOXWOODS! ADELE DECOF INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT & GALA Everyone was a winner at the 2008 ADELE DECOF INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT & GALA! PGA Tour stars Ryuji Imada, Woody Austin, Bart Bryant, Bo van Pelt, Pat Sheehan, P.H. Horgan and Brad Adamonis joined us for a morning Clinic, then hit the links with our amateurs. With the addition of a great bunch of up-and-coming Tour stars of the future, our players had their first full Pro-Am! 200 guests partied at the "Evening at MGM Grand" Gala, where Foundation Chairman Leonard Decof spoke of his passion to help cancer patients have a better treatment experience. At the Live Auction we sold off great sports memorabilia, golf outings and a trip to the Kentucky Derby! All in all we raised over $100,000 to help expand and improve the Adele R. Decof Cancer Center at The Miriam Hospital. Thanks to all who joined us for this winning event! PAST HIGHLIGHTS: ADELE DECOF INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT AND GALA The sun shone brightly on the 2007 ADELE DECOF INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT as we returned to Carnegie Abbey on August 28, joined by Justin Rose, Geoff Ogilvy, Stephen Ames, Ryuji Imada, Bo van Pelt, Steve Marino, Troy Matteson, Lee Rinker, Pat Horgan, Jeffrey Dantas and Bill Campbell. After a great morning clinic the pros played and mingled with our amateurs, and a good time was had by all. Equally successful was the "Evening at the Renaissance" Gala, held on August 26 at the new Renaissance Providence Hotel. Guest emcee Gene Valicenti presided, with the White Heat Orchestra providing a swinging dance beat. Chairman Leonard Decof spoke of the Foundation's work to improve local cancer treatment, and the crowd cheered as we auctioned off a trip for four to the Kentucky Derby, a walk-on part in Michael Corrente's new film, and a guest walk-on spot in James Woods' TV drama, "Shark." Thanks to all our contributors, guests and volunteers for making this year's events our best yet! The ADELE DECOF CADILLAC INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT played host to 13 world-class PGA Tour pros for the morning clinic, including Justin Rose, Mark Brooks and Patrick Sheehan. The Tournament, played on Columbus Day after a rainout, was won by the team of Peter Koch, Rick McDermott, Joe Latina and Scott Marshall, who will compete in the Cadillac Invitational National Championship at the TPC Sawgrass in January. Good luck, guys!
SECOND CANCER CENTER DEDICATED AT THE MIRIAM HOSPITAL The Adele R. Decof Comprehensive Cancer Center at The Miriam Hospital was dedicated on June 15, with hospital officials, trustees and supporters gathered to celebrate the new alliance. A model of excellence in cancer care, with an award-winning nursing staff and some of the best cancer specialists in the state, the Cancer Center is now treating double the number of patients it was designed to accomodate. The Foundation's generous pledge of support will help alleviate the overflow, improve patient services and add state-of-the-art digital mammography equipment.
STUDENTS HOLD FUNDRAISER FOR FOUNDATION As a class project a group of local college seniors--Katelyn Auclair, Joe Burke, Andrew Bartlett, Dan Colman and Bill Naylor-- organized and ran a charity poker tournament to benefit the Foundation. Held at the Bradley Cafe in Providence, the event raised $1,700 to help in the fight against cancer.
ADELE DECOF INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT AND GALA Not even a rainout could spoil the fun of the 2005 Tournament and Gala! Leading off with a celebration of our 5th year, we held a Gala Dinner and Auction at the Providence Westin Hotel on Aug. 29. Golfers and non-golfers alike enjoyed an "Evening of Swing" as the world-famous Count Basie Orchestra rocked the rafters. The Tournament was moved to Sept. 6 after a rainout on Aug. 30, which was a perfect day for eighteen holes of friendly competition.
